Week of Oct. 11: Near 90, Then a Big Fall Cooldown

Summer isn’t quite ready to let go. The National Weather Service in Paducah says highs will push near 90 the first part of the week before a front brings storms and a real taste of fall.

Tonight: Clear early, then partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 60s.

Monday: Sunny and hot for Columbus Day, with highs around 90 and a southwest breeze.

Tuesday: Sunny, with highs in the lower 90s. Lows Tuesday night only drop to the upper 60s.

Wednesday: A chance of showers in the morning, then showers likely and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Rain chance 70 percent. Showers and a few storms could linger Wednesday night.

Thursday: Partly cloudy with highs in the upper 80s.

Friday and Saturday: Here comes the cooldown. Highs in the lower 70s Friday and only the lower 60s Saturday, with Friday night lows in the mid 40s.

That’s close to a 30 degree drop in daytime highs from Tuesday to Saturday. If you haven’t pulled the jackets out of the closet yet, this weekend is the time.

River stage: The river at Cairo was at 22.2 feet Sunday. It’s expected to fall to about 18.3 feet by Thursday, then start back up to around 20.6 feet Friday. Flood stage is 40 feet.
